Finial Crowned Limestone Wall Fountain with a Lion Mask

A carved artichoke finial stands on its own plinth above the broken scrolled pediment of this reclaimed limestone wall fountain, lifting the whole composition well clear of the cornice. The ashlar backplate is the most strongly mottled in the collection, its blocks running from bone white through grey to deep ochre. A carved lion mask set high in the wall carries the spout, and a small gadrooned half bowl catches beneath it before the water reaches the canted apron basin.
