Shell Cartouche Limestone Wall Fountain

Chalk pale and very nearly bleached, this reclaimed limestone wall fountain is assembled in ashlar courses that step up through two stages to an arched crest carved with a cartouche of shell and acanthus foliage. A pair of large spiral volutes turn at each end of the lower stage. An iron chain and its counterweight still hang at the left, left in place from the working life of the piece, and water arrives through a slender iron pipe above a broad canted apron basin with a rolled coping. Suited to courtyards, walled gardens and Mediterranean style landscapes.
